AI Lesson Plan Generator for Teachers

Ms. Rivera teaches 6th-grade science. On Sunday afternoon, she used to spend hours writing lesson plans for the week. Now she spends less. She enters the topic, the level and the length, chooses an approach, and gets a draft plan to edit.

The AI Lesson Plan Generator is one of the AI generators of OpenEduCat Tools. It does not replace teacher expertise, it eliminates the blank page.

This page fills in a draft from a template. Copy prompt gives you the prompt for any AI chat.

How it works

From topic to lesson plan in four steps.

Teacher inputs topic, level, and length

The teacher chooses the subject and the level, types the topic and the length of the lesson, and chooses a teaching approach.

AI generates a structured lesson plan

The template gives a structured lesson plan: a learning goal, a warm-up, teaching, practice and a closing check. With Improve with AI on, your own AI key writes the plan for your topic, and you can name the standards in the topic.

Teacher reviews and edits the plan

Copy the plan and edit it in your own document. The teacher can adjust timing, swap activities and add their own notes.

Copy or download

Copy the finished plan or download it as a text file.

Time back for planning

A full-time teacher delivering 25 lessons per week can spend a long time writing each lesson plan from scratch. That time comes before marking, parent communication, or professional development.

A draft takes moments to generate, and you still review and personalise it.

What the generator includes

Every plan is a structured starting point for you to check and adapt.

Differentiation suggestions

Mixed-ability classrooms need three levels of the same activity: on-grade, scaffolded for learners who are behind, and extended for learners who are ahead. With Improve with AI on, ask for them in the topic and edit from that starting point.

Built-in closing check

Every lesson plan ends with a short check on the learning goal. Change it to fit what you taught.

Four teaching approaches

Direct teaching with guided practice, inquiry (5E), workshop and project work are the approaches on the form. Teachers select the model that fits the content and the plan follows it.

Who uses the lesson plan generator

New and early-career teachers are the biggest beneficiaries. They often spend their weekends building lessons from scratch. The generator gives them a starting point they can adapt to their style, rather than a blank document.

Experienced teachers use the tool when they are teaching a new unit, covering an unfamiliar topic for a colleague, or refreshing a plan they last used three years ago.

What this page does here

This page builds a draft from a template on this device. Copy prompt gives you the prompt for any AI chat.

Questions teachers ask

How long does it take to generate a lesson plan?

The draft comes in moments. Then you review and edit the plan, and that takes as long as your changes need.

Which curriculum standards can I use?

The form does not hold a standards list. Type the standard in the topic, such as an NGSS or a CBSE code, and with Improve with AI on your own AI key writes to it. Check the alignment yourself.

Can I edit the generated lesson plan?

Yes. Copy the lesson plan and edit it in your own document. You can rewrite any section, change the timing, or add your own notes. The AI is a starting point, the finished plan reflects your teaching style.

How does differentiation work?

With Improve with AI on, ask in the topic for a scaffolded version, the standard version, and an extension version. The template gives one plan for you to adapt.

Can lesson plans be shared with colleagues?

Yes. Copy the plan or download it as a text file, and share it the way you already share documents.

Does the AI know what the class has already been taught?

No. The tool reads no course map or past lessons. It uses only what you enter in the form, so name what the class has covered in the topic, or add it when you read the draft.
